Something that most people aren’t aware of is the slight variance in the taste of the Zips tartar sauce from the Lee Boulevard location versus the Zips location on Fowler.

The tartar sauce at Fowler tastes better. It’s got a little more of a twang to it. I know that’s not much of a definition or explanation but there’s something missing from the tartar at the Lee Blvd location.

So on Saturday night I stayed home and got some work done and thought to myself, “Self, you haven’t ordered a pizza in a while”. I visited Dominos and then the Pizzahut site. Then something occurred to me. While I was just visiting these sites only to see if they had any specials, I could order straight from the website! Isn’t that straight out of movie from the mid 90’s?

Since these companies have invested a lot of money and marketing resources into this new feature of convenience, I figured I might as well give it a test run. After figuring out which “flavor” of pizza I wanted (Dominos or Pizzahut) I settled on Pizzahut. The registration portion of Pizzahut’s site was relatively pain free. The only pain in the neck were a couple of boxes I had failed to check (we’ll chalk that up to operator error).

The over all experience of ordering online was actually kind of cool. I didn’t have to call anyone up and ask, “Yeah, what are your specials?”. And even better, the person answering the phone probably didn’t have to answer the same dumb question 157 times that night. And to top it off, the pizza got delivered in about 25 minutes. What a deal!

So, on to the food! Well, it was a Meat Lover’s Pizza and Breadsticks. It tasted just as good as the last 43 times I’ve ever ordered Pizzahut pizza and breadsticks. Go figure.

This biscuit was the most tasteless, overpriced piece of fast food I have eaten in years. I was so overly disappointed with the entire meal that if I could speak with whomever put it on the menu, I would give them a swift kick in the ass.

Not to sound picky, but if I’m going to spend just under five bucks for a meal, I expect value. With strong competition from other fast food joints, namely Subway and Quiznos, I recommend that everyone spend their time and money a little better than on the McDonalds Southern Style Biscuit.

So I decided to grab a salad to be “cheap”. I was in my neighborhood of Uptown and knew the Metropolitan Market had a decent salad bar. I did grab the larger container and go big with the ingredients. I went with the iceburg lettuce, shredded American cheese, cottage cheese, croutons, and a few bleu cheese crumbles. To top it off, I went with a ranch and Italian dressing blend.

I went to the cashier and handed him my salad. He set my salad on the scale to determine the cost and that’s when I said to myself “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!”. My going “cheap” ended up being a salad for $14.19! Who’d a thunkit.

Needless to say, I’m not going back to the Metropolitan Market for a salad anytime soon.

So I went home for the weekend. My first stop was meeting my brother and Dad at Zips. Apparently, they both didn’t appreciate how serious I am about my visit to Zips because they both shook their heads when we all walked in and the people behind the counter said “Hi Ryan. Did you just get in from Seattle?” Why, yes I did.

I ordered the Single Fish and a cheeseburger and was very content.

On Sunday, my friend Mandy called to see if we could squeeze in lunch before I left. I said “of course, how does Zips sound?” This time around I stuck with two cheeseburgers, fries and some Mountain Dew. By the end of the meal, I was stuffed.

At any rate, it was a great weekend of Zips, family, and friends. Can’t wait to do it again next month.

The McDonalds at the corner of 3rd and Pine St. is always a zoo. Today was an exception to that rule. It was quiet, the service was fast and the food was fresh and tasty.

Today’s menu selection was a Quarter Pounder w/o cheese, fries, and a coke. It was probably the best looking McDonalds burger I’ve seen in a while. The fries were piping hot right out of the fryer and the coke, well McDonalds does Coca Cola better than Coca Cola.

According to the nutritional information from the McDonald’s website, the Quarter Pounder has 410 calories and 19 grams of fat and a large McDonalds fries have 570 calories.

Now why is it that I still enjoy the food at McDonalds when I know its not entirely good for me? When I figure it out, I’ll let you know.

Alright. People who’ve known me for a while know that I am addicted to the Zips by the Mall on Fowler. Not the Zips on Lee Boulevard or the Zips down on Canal in Kennewick. Just the one on Fowler.

Why do I love Zips so much? Well, I’m glad you asked. For some reason, they have the world’s best tartar sauce. As far as the food goes, their cheese burgers are nothing to brag about, but they are different from any other burger out there. Their fish and chips are the “old school” fish sticks that remind me of something from middle school.

I can go on for days about how much better the tartar sauce is than any one else’s but the only way to experience it yourself is to go get some.
