So I’ve been back from Seattle for about five months. I’ve got to say I miss my Seattle SBUX for a few simple reasons. The first reason is that I had my favorite Starbucks right next door. I could go get coffee whenever I wanted. I could get as many free refills as I wanted because I had one of their registered cards. The second biggest reason is they rarely, rarely told me that they were out of whatever blend they were pouring. Since I’ve been back to the Tri-Cities, I’ve been told more times in five months than in the past five years that there wasn’t enough coffee brewed and that I’d have to wait. Secondly, no barista in their right mind would have said “hey, I could just top off that venti with the other coffee we have”. Ugh. Hey… I just needed to vent for a second.

I walk in, and since there isn’t anything resembling a line, and belly up to the counter.
Then there’s the new guy. I haven’t seen this guy before. Maybe his shift started at 10:00am. And of course, I walk in at 10:07am. He instinctively reaches for my empty cup and asks, “decaf ?”. Without a moment’s hesitation and lack of filter, I declare, “oh hell no!“.

Am I really that needy for caffeine? It must be so. This has been a Ryan Rose coffee update….

Who knows, sometimes I get a little crazy and hit both. I really enjoy both locations. The people that work there are really cool and laid back.

The coffee, tea, and food at Cherry Street is better than average. The coffee is a good roast. I’ve had the opportunity to chow on the BLT a couple times. It’s a damn fine BLT.

I figured I had to take a chance and try it because come September time, all of Starbuck’s breakfast sandwiches will be gone. Then I’ll have to rely on McDonalds or Jack n the Crack to satisfy my breakfast sandwich needs.

I just wanted to send a shout out to the crew of the Starbucks on the corner of 1st Ave South and Walker in Seattle. I’ve truly enjoyed going in there as part of my morning caffeine fix. So Howard, if you get a chance to read this, make sure you give these people an “atta boy”.

I do remember seeing that Pete had been recognized as Partner of the Quarter. This award was definitely deserved because when he’s there, he is on top of things. He goes out of his way to remember people’s names and make them feel welcome.

On a side note, I’m digging the free refills from the Starbucks Card Program. It’s the saving grace of my day.

Thanks again,

My friend Shana gave a Starbucks gift card because she doesn’t like Starbuck’s coffee and she knew I would put it to use. Anyways, last week I was told about a couple perks of registering a Starbucks card on their corporate website. One of these perks is receiving free refills whenever I bring my cup back and have them swipe the card.

Again, if you didn’t know, refills are normally a whopping 55 cents. Before last week I was making a couple trips a day to SBUX and not even taking advantage of the refill policy.

Registering the card was a painless process and took about 3 minutes. They weren’t asking for blood or my first born. They did want name, phone number, address, and a little insight into my coffee interests. After that, I was done. I think it will be worth it.

So, I made a second coffee run and was clued in a little more on how things work at good ol’ Starbucks. Apparently, if you bring your already used coffee cup back and get a refill, it only costs 55 cents! Where was I when this glorious tidbit of news came out?

Now my only problem is deciding whether or not to bring a little change to the office and use that for my refill run, or whether to use my card for each refill. Maybe I’ll use my card for each refill so that I can secretly feel like I’m sticking it to Howard for the whole Sonics debacle.
