The very first time I went to Pho Cyclo was about a year and a half ago at the Capitol Hill location. To be blunt, I wasn’t impressed. The broth was a little watery and they hadn’t a drop of chili oil in the entire joint. So needless to say, I didn’t make it back there any time soon.
Apparently business has been good because they opened second location which is right down the street from my work. So I reluctantly went and got some pho because even bad pho can still be good pho. It kind of works like pizza. There is no such thing as bad, there are only varying shades of good. (reminds me of a joke I heard once. hehe)
Long story short, these days I’ll grab a to go order of the Large #5 (large beef) and bring it back to the office and throw in a hearty helping of chili oil I got from Uwajimaya. The right chili oil makes all the difference in the world when eating pho.
Anywho, I definitely recommend Pho Cyclo Cafe as long as you bring your own chili oil.
